GA– Savannah – Crosswinds Golf Club

04/30/26

The open, parkland style design is challenging and fun to all skill levels. With no homes on the course, your round will not be hindered by narrowing fairways and curious onlookers. The unique par 72 course layout features five par 5’s and five par 3’s — designed to provide an exceptional golf experience for all levels of play. A choice of five different tee combinations makes the course both enjoyable for the occasional golfer and highly challenging for the avid golfer. Undulating greens and rolling, well-bunkered Bermuda fairways combine with streams, ponds and marshes to delight the eye and enhance the enjoyment of the game.

First Impressions:

The big circle drive-up right in front of the clubhouse is very impressive. The clubhouse and all that you can see around it gives the feeling that this is a top-notch place. It gives a warm welcome feeling.

About the course:

I love the open parkland style with no homes. The drive between some holes are quite long and I don’t think I would want to walk the 18 holes here. The views are beautiful and just what I was looking forward to seeing and feeling in Savannah GA. This is my favorite kind of layout with five par 5 and five par 3 holes. The ponds, trees, and fairways are well maintained and very picturesque. It is near-by an airport and so occasionally there is a low flying plane overhead. As should be expected, there are alligators, snakes, and plenty of wildlife to see and be aware of here.

About Our Game:

The warm and friendly staff in the pro-shop got me teamed up with two other guys. I met with Jason and Kirk that like me were also visiting the area from out of state. Jason is a police officer from Idaho and Kirk is a CPA from California. I explained to them about my plan to blog this and they were ok with that so off we went to play this course for the first time.

It didn’t take long to see that Kirk was probably the better player of the three of us. He is a CPA from California, so I bet he gets plenty of opportunities to play golf. Jason is a hard-working police officer with a schedule that allows him some opportunities to play golf, and he does as often as he can when weather in Idaho is permitting. I am retired and playing lots of golf and should be as good or better than Kirk, but I am just not there yet.

Kirk made the first par of the day on hole #3 and then Jason made the next on hole #4. I finally made par on hole #9. On hole #6 Kirk and I were on the green looking at a putt for par. He of course made it, and I didn’t. On the par 3 hole #14 we all made the green with our tee shots then went on to all 3 of us making par. That was my last par of the day, but Kirk went and made a birdie on the next hole. All in all, we had a great day of golf and I totally enjoyed it. I think I could play with these guys anywhere and have a great day.

Results:

Jason               2-Par 0-birdie

Kirk                  5-Par 1-birdie

Tony                2-Par 0-birdie

My Favorite Hole:

I think my favorite hole I played was hole #18. It was a long 455-yard par 5 with water on the right and a narrow approach to the green. My third shot was short and left me with still another 120 yards to the green. I made the green on the 4th shot and then 2 putted for a bogie. I was happy with that. Nobody made par on that hole.
