First Impressions
The club house and practice putting green area was nicer that I expected for a 9-hole public course in Alaska. I guess I figured that since Alaska has a short golf season the course and facilities would not be as nice as they are in most other states.
About The Course
This course has very nice pro shop and food service that has outdoor seating overlooking the practice putting area and they have a sand-trap practice area that many other courses do not have. However, the course itself is a bit rougher than many as I expected just because of…well it’s Alaska.
They have a driving range area that is about a par 5 walk around the corner from the club house. I tried it out and the nice thing about it is that you can hit off the grass (no mats) but you need some tees.
The greens are not as smooth as I am use too but not as bad as you might think given most of the year weather conditions.
This is a pretty course to walk and enjoy the scenery that Alaska has to offer.
About My Game
I just showed up without a pre-arranged tee time and was able to get on at 1:30 PM. Unfortunately, there was not anyone else so I played this one myself as a single. I got bogie on the first 2 holes and then a double bogie on the #3 par 5. I thought it was going to be a bad day but then made par on #5, again on #7, and finished with a birdie on #9 and a final score of 42.
My Favorite Hole
The number 9 par 3 was my favorite mostly because it offered a hole-in one challenge and I completed it with a birdie. The hole-in-one challenge did not apply to me because I was by myself with no witness of video as required by the challenge. It was still exciting to make the birdie.
