The Course
The Coeur d’ Alene Resort
900 S Floating Green Drive
Coeur d’ Alene, ID 83815
April 23, 2025
I have been wanting to play this course since I first heard of it about 5 years ago. Being that Idaho was on my schedule for 2025; I figured I had to fit this one in. I played the local public course as my official game for “golfing the USA” the day before this. I played this course mostly for the personal experience of playing such a unique and well know course.
I was teamed up with 3 other guys of which one (Ron) road with me and the other two guys were brothers just out for a great day of golf. I did not follow their game but I kept score for me and Ron. I also did not make as many notes as I normally would because I was so focused on the total fun and experience of playing this course.
About the course:
This course is well known to most golfers from the Pacific NW region as
the floating green course.” It of course has a “floating green” and it requires a short boat ride out to it to putt and finish the hole. When you play this course, you get a cart and caddie included. Our caddie was Steve and he was great. He was assigned to the 4 of us and he did a great job of keeping the game fun and moving a long on schedule. This is a resort type place and there are some nice package deals you can get to stay and play here. The best way to learn more on this one is to log into their web site and see all it has to offer.
My Golf Partner:
I played with Ron who is from Canada and was here mostly for the same reason of just wanting to play this course. We kept score and at the end we had an exact tie of 91. This is not an easy course to play and I think we were both happy with that final score. I had 5 pars to Rons 4 and he had 1 birdie to my none.
About our game:
As I mentioned, I have fewer notes on this game than usual but here is what I have…
#5 (par3) This was a challenging par 3 that we hit from an elevated T-box down over a sand trap and cart path. It weas the only hole where we both made par.
#11 (par5) This is the 2nd longest par 5 on the course. The interesting thing here is that both of our tee shots landed within a few feet of each other. Then after our 2nd shot, we were again just a few feet from each other. From there we had to hit over some water to a green accessible only by a bridge (see pictures). Unfortunately, neither of us made par on this one.
#14 (par3) This is the “floating green”. Our cadie advised that it was 160 yards to make it on to the green today. He also advised that due to a slight head wind we should club up to have a better chance of making it on to the green. I took that advise but unfortunately, I did not get a solid contact with the ball and it hit the top of the wall bouncing up and back into the water. Ron also landed in water on this one. The brothers however, both made It on and got par. On the boat ride back, they were each awarded a certificate for making par. I must get back and try this again sometime.
#16 (par4) Ron hit a great 150 yard shot that landed just a few feet from the hole. He went on to make par.
#17 (par4) After that great 150 yard shot on #16 Ron drove the green on this one and cashed in for a birdie. I made par.
My favorite hole:
Well, it kind of goes without saying that my favorite hole was #14 (the floating green) even though I did not make it on and finished with a double bogie. I made a pretty good putt to get that (see picture).
